During the pandemic, students from the GRAMMY® Award-winning National Children's Chorus (USA) and a chamber orchestra came together virtually to record the moving children's opera "Brundibár" on their smartphones in bedrooms and closets across the country. Written by Hans Krása in 1938 and performed by youth in the Theresienstadt concentration camp from 1943-1944, the story of "Brundibár" celebrates justice and righteousness prevailing over tyranny through the lens of a children's fairytale. This album and recording is dedicated to the people and children of Ukraine as they currently face a real-life invasion of their homeland.
The National Children’s Chorus, under the leadership of Artistic Director Luke McEndarfer, has quickly established itself as one of the world’s leading children’s choirs. As one of the largest music institutions for youth in the nation, the chorus provides its unparalleled training to talented singers around the country, with more than 40 choirs and 1,000 students based in the chapter cities of Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Austin, Dallas and Boston.
